Author Interview: Contemporary Romance Author Katrina Mills

Welcome, Owl Readers! Next up in our Introduce an Author in August series is Contemporary Romance Author Katrina Mills! Her novel, ALL I EVER WANTED, epitomizes the essence of summer romance with a kooky cast of small town characters, a rambunctious heroine, and a swoon-worthy hero. But don't take my word for it. Read all about Katrina and her books in her words!
And don't forget to enter our contest at the end!

1. Tell our readers a little about yourself and your work.
Currently Hampton Roads, Virginia is where I call home, which is the beginning scenery to many of my books. I enjoy spending time with my nine year old daughter and husband of ten years, who luckily for me is a doppelganger for Ryan Gosling. We share our home with three dogs; two Pit Bulls and a Golden Retriever. I am an advocate for bully breed dogs and seek to educate the community about their ability to become great family pets. After spending nine years as an elementary and middle school teacher, I switched careers to address my love of animals by working as an educator for a local SPCA. When I’m not busy with my loved ones, four-legged fur babies included, I enjoy immersing myself in books that were the inspirational starting point on my journey to be a published author.

2. What genres do you write or want to write in the future?
Currently I am working in the contemporary romance genre. My first work of fiction, All I Ever Wanted, is book one in a series surrounding a group of teachers and their experiences finding Mr. Right… and sometimes Mr. Right Now. Although my present focus is in the romance field, I am simultaneously working on a YA fantasy novel called Achilles’ Flight. No matter the genre, all my books surround a strong female lead that women will connect to and admire.

3. What has your experience been like working with City Owl Press?
Before I was even given an official offer from City Owl Press, I knew this was an agency I wanted to work with. Tina Moss and I had communicated previously and I was amazed how down to earth and personable she was. Anyone aspiring to be an author knows those traits aren’t very common when you are trying to publish a manuscript. So when I received THE EMAIL offering to make my dream of becoming a published author a reality, there was no second guessing on what my answer would be. Both Tina and Yelena are in constant contact with me and willing to answer my questions- as a newbie, there are many. So far this journey with City Owl Press has been an amazing adventure and I am sure the relationship will continue beyond my first book.

4. Where do you see yourself in 5, 10 years?
Idealistically in five years, I would like to see myself working as a full-time writer. I would still like to work in the educational field, but on a part-time basis. Ten years from now, I’d love to think I would be basking on the beaches of Mexico and being served Margaritas by waiters who look like a young Johnny Depp, but if I’m still married to my husband and sending my daughter off to college then that would be good too.

5. Tell our readers why they should pick up your book.
Readers should pick up a copy of All I Ever Wanted because you will immediately connect with the characters. We have all had that first love… the one we still think about occasionally (and maybe look up on Facebook). Kinsley, the heroine of the story, gets to live in a world where she finally reconnects with the one that got away. The fact that she is quirky, can’t go anywhere without embarrassing herself, and has a kick-butt group of friends adds flavor and depth to this already spicy novel. It’s a fun book that readers won’t want to put down, whether it be to see what mess Kinsley has gotten herself into next or to find out how far she is going to go with the man that broke her heart twenty years earlier.
