Owl Madness Day 5: Jennifer McMahon

Hi! I’m Jennifer Rose McMahon and am one of the authors with City Owl Press, NYC. My book, Bohermore, is being featured today as the first book in my Pirate Queen series. It is a paranormal, historical romance set in medieval Ireland. Bohermore takes the reader on a quest with a young girl, Maeve, through Ireland in search of the source of her family curse. Grace O’Malley, Ireland’s notorious pirate queen and chieftain to the O’Malley Clan is featured in the series. Come along for this time-travel ride through modern Ireland and into medieval Ireland as Maeve tracks her stalker through centuries and generations.
Today, I am partnered with City Owl author, Diane Holiday. Her new novel, Love In Hiding, features a strong female character who is far from a damsel in distress. Our books mesh well in that they portray kick-ass heroines who don’t stop until they get what they want. From the paranormal romance of Bohermore to the contemporary romance of Love In Hiding, follow these warriors on their quests to making their destinies happen.

Here’s a pic of the cover of Rockfleet, the prequel to the Pirate Queen series.  The castle is Rockfleet Castle, Grace O’Malley’s stronghold.

Has anyone ever heard of Grace O’Malley, also known as Granuaile? Has anyone here been to Ireland or have plans of getting there one day? What part of Ireland is your favorite? Let’s talk Ireland!!!

Here’s a pic of my Pirate Queen series:

Rockfleet, Bohermore (Book 1), and Inish Clare (Book 2). Book 3, Ballycroy, is set to release in summer 2018.

When I lived in Galway, Ireland while studying abroad, I lived on a road called Bohermore. It’s a medieval road that leads into Galway City. It is a central location to the stories in the series. Inish Clare (Book 2) is named after Clare Island, the location believed to be where Grace O’Malley’s final resting place is.

Anyone have Irish roots? Post the family name!! My roots are O’Malley, and I married a McMahon. Rival clans!!! My O’Malley roots inspired my research on Grace O’Malley, leading then to my writing inspiration.

Jennifer Rose McMahon is a USA Today Bestselling Author who has been creating her Pirate Queen Series since her college days abroad in Ireland. The series includes four books: Rockfleet, Bohermore, Inish Clare and Ballycroy. Jennifer's passion for Irish legends, ancient cemeteries, and medieval ghost stories has fueled her adventurous story telling, while her husband’s decadent brogue carries her imagination through the centuries. When she’s not in her own world writing about castles and curses, she can be found near Boston in the local coffee shop, yoga studio, or at the beach…most often answering to the name ‘Mom’ by her fab children four.

Bohermore, Book One of the Pirate Queen Series

When your dreams become reality, being cursed can be a real nightmare.

Like a punch in the face, eighteen-year-old Maeve O'Malley's visions knock her off her path. The Pirate Queen stalking Maeve in her dreams killed her mother years ago, and now, the villain is coming for her. Maeve's decision to ditch Boston College takes everyone by surprise as she packs her bags, leaves America, and heads to the west coast of Ireland to chase her dreams—and end them.

Maeve uncovers an ancient family curse that refuses to remain silent until she accepts her predestined role in what many thought was only a legend. Her Irish history professor—a man she shouldn't be falling for—is the only person who understands the origins of her torment.

Maeve's journey becomes a medieval treasure hunt through Ireland's castles and ruins as she tracks the wrathful Pirate Queen who has her marked for vengeance.

STARRED REVIEW: “McMahon’s excellent debut, BOHERMORE, makes a contemporary paranormal mystery feel cozy and romantic... The slowly unfurling romance doesn’t go in obvious directions, which adds to the story’s allure. Teen and adult readers alike will be clamoring for the sequel.” - Publishers Weekly

“Engaging, beautifully written scenes, and idyllic descriptions of Ireland and lyrical dialogue keep the tale of the Pirate Queen moving at a quick pace. The characters are engaging and they draw a person in to this tale of adventure and intrigue...Adrenaline-fueled action and enough twists and turns to keep even the most astute readers on their toes, this is a captivating story with a heroine who is forcefully engaging.” - L. Kane, InD'tale Magazine

“As Chieftain of The O'Malley Clan I am always interested in anything to do with Granuaile, our very famous Pirate Queen ancestor. Jennifer’s novel is not a history book but it captures the connection with the past which we treasure in Ireland. The Irish landscape, contemporary social life, the Irish language, and romance are woven into this fantasy story about Maeve Grace O'Malley and her quest to solve her ‘Awake Dreams’. I am certainly looking forward to the sequel. More BOHERMORE please!” - Sarah Kelly, O’Malley Clan Chieftain
